Mooresville, NC (September 6, 2018) – History will be made this week at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as the “Team Africa” makes their debut in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Star Nursery 100 on September 13th, 2018.

Arnout Kok will become the second South African driver to race in any NASCAR event in the United States, and he will be driving the No. 97 for Obaika Racing, NASCAR’s first and only African-owned race team. Obaika Racing is owned by Nigerian entrepreneur, Victor Obaika. The team will have the support of African companies Brand South Africa and VroomBrands as the co-primary sponsors. The car will carry both the South African and Nigerian flags to celebrate the debut of “Team Africa.” Nigeria and South Africa are two of the powerhouse countries of the African continent in population, economy, entrepreneurial opportunities, and more. “Team Africa” hopes to introduce the NASCAR world to some of what these African countries have to offer.

Brand South Africa was established in August of 2002 to help create a positive and compelling brand image for South Africa, and to promote the country’s booming tourism industry. VroomBrands is your one-stop travel experience gateway offering unique and customizable experience packages from the four corners of the earth.

British energy drink brand, Rich Energy, will also join the team as an associate sponsor.

Although new to the United States and NASCAR, Kok has extensive racing experience spanning the globe. Kok first began racing Regional 100cc karting in South Africa. In 1996, Kok completed his first Formula Ford test in British Formula Ford Zetec at Brands Hatch. Kok went on to compete in the Champion of Brands Hatch Formula Ford 1600 part-time in 1997 and full-time in 1998 with multiple top-ten finishes. Kok has also competed at the Goodwood Rival multiple times over the years in the Historic Formula Junior and Historic Formula 1 class. In 2004, Kok competed in Turkish Formula 3 for a full season, scoring a podium finish. In 2007, he raced Formula GTI (South Africa) for four races scoring one win, a second place, and two top-ten finishes. In 2015, Kok began racing the European CAMSO V8 Late Model Series, returning for full seasons in 2016 and 2017 with one win, multiple top-ten finishes, and multiple laps led. In 2017, Kok won the European Late Model Championship, and he won a round of the series earlier this season. Kok also competed in the 2017 UK Oval Legends Series in which he has four class wins.

Obaika Racing made their debut in NASCAR in 2015 competing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The team recently announced plans to compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series later this year and full-time in 2019.

For the first time ever, NASCAR’s K&N Pro Series West will race on dirt at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Thursday, September 13th at 8:00 p.m. PT. The race will be telecast on NBCSN on Friday, September 21st 2:30 p.m. ET.

About Brand South Africa

Brand South Africa was established in August 2002 to help create a positive and compelling brand image for South Africa. At that time, the world was unsure about what to think of South Africa, with many different messages being sent out by various sources. This did very little to build the country’s brand and it was evident that to attract tourism and investment there was a need to co-ordinate marketing initiatives to make them more effective. This led to the creation of Brand South Africa, whose main objective is the marketing of South Africa through the Brand South Africa campaign. There are many benefits to having a consolidated brand image, with the most important being that a consistent Brand South Africa message creates strategic advantages in terms of trade and tourism for the country in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Mooresville, NC (Sept. 3, 2018) – NASCAR’s first and only African-owned race team, Obaika Racing, will be heading back to the track very soon. Obaika Racing’s owner, Nigerian entrepreneur Victor Obaika, recently acquired race cars and equipment from the former BK Racing team and plans to compete in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series at some point during the remainder of the 2018 season and thereafter full-time in the 2019 season.

In addition, Obaika Racing will be returning to the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season, at some point, with plans to run full-time in 2019. The team also has exciting news concerning driver development and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series coming later this week.

“This is a very exciting and intense time for Obaika Racing,” said team owner Victor Obaika. “We are aware that there will be challenges going into the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, but this team will take on those challenges. Since our last race, we have maintained our shop and key personnel while taking the time to personally learn even more about this sport, and that will position this team for more momentum than we’ve ever had. We are definitely looking to add more new team members soon, and things are coming together.”

Obaika Racing made their NASCAR debut in 2015 competing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Despite being entirely new to NASCAR, the team finished in the top-30 of NASCAR Xfinity Series owner standings at the end of the 2015 season.

The team will announce race dates, sponsors, and drivers in the coming days.

Obaika Racing welcomes the Decker sisters

It’s not the holidays yet, but Obaika Racing is having quite a treat with new drivers as we prepare for the upcoming Xfinity race! Making their Xfinity series debut, the Decker sisters, Paige and Claire, will be heating up the Iowa Speedway come Sunday, June 19, 2016 at 1:30pm ET.

Wisconsin bred Paige (age 23) and Claire (age 21), have been racing competitively for over 2 years. In 2015, Paige made her NASCAR debut in the Camping Truck series at Martinsville where she finished 30th. The following year she and sister Claire, both raced in the Truck series at Martinsville and both finished within the top 30 with Paige at 25th and Claire at 27th. This Sunday, the sisters will be racing for Obaika Racing, with Paige behind the wheel #97 and Claire taking on the new car #77 Chevrolet Camaro.

Obaika Racing is thrilled to have the Decker sisters on board and expects to blaze up the track at Iowa. Our team is always happy to take on new drivers and introduce the NASCAR universe to aspiring talent.

“It’s not often you see two girls, yet alone sisters, in a NASCAR race” says team owner, Victor Obaika. “so we are really excited about this opportunity and hopefully this experience will open doors for many more female drivers.”

Vroom Brands will be sponsoring both cars.

We are definitely looking forward to the race this Sunday, with the Decker sisters, and are equally excited to be featuring the #77 car.

Memorable Weekend at Talladega

The Obaika Racing Team had a memorable weekend at Talladega. Driver Peyton Sellers got through three crashes and finished in the 18th having started 40th.  Peyton’s performance top 20 finish beat other rookies and earned him the Rookie of the Race.

The Winn Dixie 300 is the 9th race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and it came up on May 2, 2015. The Talladega Super Speedway is the longest in the series, known for its steep banking and unique start and finish line. Peyton did a great job, keeping a good pace and avoiding the crashes. At Talladega, you never know what will happen until you cross the finish line. The Whelen champion crossed the finish line successfully with a steady trail up from 40th to 18th giving team the best finish so far in the series.  He was awarded Sunoco Rookie of the Race making the Talladega Super Speedway a memorable track for the team.

The team looks forward to more promising races in the series. Peyton is back at the drawing board, getting ready to do better in Iowa next week.
